All these new Epiphone’s with the Gibson headstocks are $2,800 here in Australia which is just ridiculous for an Epiphone as much as I love the brand. I always liked the Epiphone headstock especially the Kalamazoo ones

I gotten a few guitars from Walmart. A Fender/Squire and First Act. Then an Epiphone fro Target. They all play great. My Dean Jammer II came from SEARS

I’ve had a few first act guitars and a maestro by Gibson, they’re great mod platforms, I know what Philip McKnight is talking about, but the stuff they offer isn’t horrible for a kid just starting out or a person that wants to learn how to mod guitars with little upfront costs

A Squier Classic Vibe 60s that is a reissue of a 60s Strat except for a Laurel fingerboard is $429 vs Epiphone 1959 Les Paul reissue with Laurel fingerboard is $1299 (nearly quadruple the price).

My strong feelings about real Gibsons: Gibson is the entire reason I now play a Chinese made Les Paul. I could only spend that kind of money on a guitar once, and Gibson royally blew it. I could have had 2 new Fender Strats instead of the brand new Gibson Les Pretzel.

Why not play the sound of the middle position?

I saw a partscaster (Tele) on Guitar Center's website and it turned out to be near my home. They had marked it down 30% when they realized it was a partscaster. American Standard neck, like new body with a four-way switch. It only took a few seconds to know I was going to buy it. Of course I acted like I might not for a few minutes. It's the best neck I have.

My first guitar in 1992 was a 1983 Kramer striker with 1 humbucker and a Floyd rose. Floyd rose was terrible for a new player to deal with.

Just something to think about: You invent an item, put in the R&D, set up production, acquire raw materials, fulfill certain standards to even be allowed on the market, put in large amount of resources to get it to the customer,... and after 15 years, everybody is allowed to rip off your hard work But write a song about expletives, draw a turd on photoshop, crayon a smiley on a brick, take a picture of somebody's vomit,... Call it "art" and nobody is allowed to touch it for 70 years past your joining the choir invisible

say you are a person who’s never touched a guitar in his life say they wanna play the guitar but can’t really afford to go to their music store and buy a fender takes you to Walmart you buy the cheapest representation of guitar. They have sit down start strumming it, and doing whatever you do to play it, and you have learned how to put your fingers on the thing where the frets are all the notes all the basics that you need to know before actually truly making a song out of your notes, a guitar is fine if you’re learning and want to really know if it’s something you wanna continue doing

When i first started playing Walmart had an ok music section, and i went there because i didn't know any better. It's was all first act brand and the tuner i bought worked fine. I never bought a guitar from there but did but the formentioned tuner picks a strap and some strings, was it the best probably not but here we are 16 years later and that was the one little thing that got my foot in the guitar door. Remember people its not where you get it its what you do with it. And yes i exclusively still shop at thrift stores for all my clothes

Pickups and a headstock that have value just because Gibson say they do. The headstock premium will only last until the novelty is gone.

Just purchased a Lefty Floyd Rose tremolo system for a quilted maple EVH Music Man "style" guitar build. As a Lefty player myself, I know all to well, the frustration of wanting a certain part...Or an entire guitar, but the manufacturer doesn't make them. Like Half the Fender/Squier Product line...

I am SURE you know the answer to this question: why, why, why do guitar mfgs stuff needless electronics in all their perfectly good acoustics? To a point where you can't get a standard model,,,,,,,a Seagull Maritime comes to mind. Or the GS mini,,,,and MANY Taylor models,,, or the Epiphone Hummingbird. Frustrating. I don't get it.

If you draw a line through the middle of an OFR, it's not designed totally symmetrical, so that's probably why. Would require a totally reversed machine settings for Schaller, which may have been a real pain for them at the time, but probably not these days.

Is it really that different from Sears catalog guitars back in the day?

I'm Gen-X nothing was as bad as Tough-Skin Blue Jeans from K-Mart & Sears !! So humiliating but once they were broken in they lasted a long time !!! If I wore a hole in the knee mom would just use her Iron and bake another one on and it would be dark blue while the jeans had faded everywhere else LOL . Ah the 70's & 80's !!!

My immediate reaction was the economic conditions. People are out of money. This would mean layoffs or downsizing the us operation and driving sales to the SE line. They added value to S2 to push sales there. Affirming that it is a REAL US product by removing the big S2 badge etc. Now it is not a ”different” line - it is different US PRS.

The new Epiphones with the Gibson headstocks are also equipped with Gibson Custombucker pickups because they are the new "1959 Epiphone Les Paul" I don't know of any change in the headstocks of their regular line of the 50s and 60s Epiphone Les Paul Standards.

My favourite Floyd rose patent stamping was when a guy made his own 8 string Floyd from 2 Floyd’s chopped and welded together (before Floyd rose offered 8’s). It said “Filed Under Floyd Under Floyd Rose Pats.”

Yup… proper ‘open book’ headstocks on Epiphone versions of Gibson models, but not original Epiphone designs e.g. Casino, Sheraton etc.

You mean ALLOWED to license it. And good riddance. Many people don't know Floyd was a jeweler, which explains why his first design was so terrible.

@:10 seconds, That's very strange that PRS would say this. It's obvious that from the very start PRSs marketing has been aimed at becoming the next Great American guitar brand that is mentioned in the same breath as Fender and Gibson. I personally feel that PRS is highly overrated and highly overpriced.

Walmart doesn't take online orders as returns at physical stores. You have to return through the mail.

Why do patents expire.. like what

My first PRS was a damaged in shipping SECU24. Took a hit in the headstock and as a result I purchased it for 150+ off. Looks amazing and plays great and has resulted in my buying several more PRS guitars . Pretty sure my Core 24 I just got was a B stock. Idk if PRS even does that , but there are multiple sanding flaws, and even one of the jack plate screws is in at an odd angle. It is a 2017, I purcha sed used, got it for a good price, and it plays great and sounds great. Happy for the cost, but certianly not up to even SE cosmetic standards.

First Floyd Rose patent expired in 1997 but some related patents potentialy lasted till 2010. There is not only one patent for Floyd Rose bridges. Top mounted Floyd Rose bridge is patented in 2017 for example and should last till 2032.

I paid $300 for my 1988 Les Paul Standard and $700 for my 1988 Les Paul Custom.
